How does the XP Deus and Minelab CTX 3030 / Etrac stack up against one another.
For cherry picking out of manicured yards: Etrac gets the top spot. It’s TID is more reliable in distinguishing dimes and quarters from pennies overall.
In sites loaded with iron: Deus get the top spot, but Deus advantage on lower conductors in sites like these, even more so. One thing a person will notice when running a CTX, to get to the deeper and smaller lower conductors higher manual sensitivity is a must – and anyone who has run a CTX in a heavy nails site knows a lot of high tone falsing can result when higher manual sens is employed – Deus doesn’t suffer so much from this.
Granted a smaller coil on either Etrac or CTX can provide additional detecting capabilities, but remember they do cost they money.
Sweep speed and coil advancement through a site: Deus does have an advantage here over the 2 Minelabs – and this advantage is more so if all targets are say 9″ deep and shallower, deeper targets advantage not as great or could be equal to even giving both Etrac and CTX the advantage.
Target ID at depth: Etrac and CTX win out, but remember this would be on detectable targets only, meaning it could be possible Deus in a nail ridden area could alert a user on a nonferrous target, but target ID not so good, but target is detected nonetheless.
I am trying to paint an honest pic here to show folks what they will experience in the field.
These are all fine detectors – all capable of finding worthy targets, they have their differences, and tendencies.
Some folks it seems, myself included, always wonder what if?
In very old sites: Deus ranks very high on my list, much more ground can be covered vs minelabs, not to mention the extra weight. Deus is better scouting unit here too.
I currently use both a CTX and 2 Deus units – love them all. Even use a Makro Racer and small coil,,and a Blissttool V6.
Modern trash sites: CTX gets the top spot, but if a person is doing selected digging, they will miss some high conductive coins, a Deus user will find some of these same missed coins, but at the same time, they will undoubtably dig more can slaw ( bigger) in the process.
It would be nice if a person could run 2 detectors simultaneously, but since we can’t a person must pick the poison they wish to hunt with, so I own both the CTX and Deus units and other detectors, and based on the site, its find history, and which detector(s) I have hunted a site with previously – I choose one and hunt and hope for the best.
Is it hard or impossible to become proficient with multiple detectors?? I don’t think so, but a person had better be out using “these” multiple detectors frequently, meaning week end warrior hunting doing such, “Won’t cut it”.
Me posting this info, is certainly not meant to be a hit job on one detector vs another, just my honest opinion based on my experiences.
And as they say,”Your mileage may vary”.
To sum up:
For cherry picking out of manicured yards: Etrac
In sites loaded with iron: Deus
Sweep speed and coil advancement through a site: Deus
Target ID at depth: Etrac and CTX
In very old sites: Deus
Modern trash sites: CTX
